I don't mind if I have to be a bird trapped in a cage.
I want to be trapped inside your love.

♥ Scrap Teachers
Recently I came home to find my mother furious and my youngest brother Kevin upset. I asked them why, and after what my mom told me, what I felt was pretty close to homicidal. I am not completely sure of the details, but basically, here's what happened:

It's no secret that my brother & I have ADHD, properly diagnosed and all. Our family's been through hell and back because of people who misunderstand us, and it has been our advocacy to help people with ADHD & their familes so that they can somehow lead better lives.

Now back to my brother. It turns out that last Friday, his high school's admin decided to implement a not-so-random resectioning on his batch. I say not-so-random because they took out the alleged delinquents -- the supposed drug addicts, the loud ones, you get my drift-- and placed them all in one section. My brother and his friends were put in this section.

I know. WHAT. THE FUCK.

As a sister and an ADHD advocate, I am disgusted by this. In terms of coordinating with the school for my brother's accomodation, my parents did their fair share. It was the school administration who fell short on this; claiming that their teachers are trained for accomodating ADHD children when they clearly aren't. If anything, they've placed a stigma on my brother. They're incredibly quick to punish him for the smallest slights even he isn't even aware of. These punishments range from "community service" to writing "I won't do so-and-so again" a hundred times. But when my brother does something that merits praise, he gets none. A certain teacher even believes that my brother is "headed in the wrong direction" because he's in a band.

I don't see the point of this resectioning, whatever the reason is behind it. First of all, if you're having difficulty teaching two or three problem kids in one section, how much more when you place them in one section? Do you plan on just not teaching these kids at all, just because you believe them to be delinquent? Or is it just a way to make it easier to get rid of them all in one go?

I can only imagine how the kids in this new section must feel, with their own teachers, their own school administration perceiving & treating them like outcasts. I have had my share of rejection before, and it's a feeling I sure as hell don't want my brother to feel.

My mother is currently on a silent warpath-- reading up on the Magna Carta for Disabled Persons. Apparently, said Magna Carta (or RA 9442) states that "an activity in public which incites hatred towards, or serious contempt for, or severe ridicule of persons with disability" qualifies as "vilification", and is punishable by means of imprisonment of not less than six months but not more than two years, and a fine of no less than Php 50,000.oo but not exceeding Php 100,000.00.

And yes, ADHD legally counts as a disability. I should know; my personal reccomentdation on this was sought by the National Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons on this a couple of years back.

My mother is also writing a letter to the principal, asking for an explanation on the matter at hand. I'm helping her draft it, though I'm finding it hard not to use expletives. Thankfully, my mother is a fair & patient woman (even though she's suggested a couple of good swear words herself, haha) and has decided to reserve further judgment until the rectum principal agrees to meet with her.

I, on the other hand, am warming up. I see people being thrown into the sun in the near future.

Bless the little queen
Hi, I'm Kang & I'm very sure I'm not Korean. I really like Japanese idols though; enough to make me want to go to Akihabara & spend the remainder of my youth prancing in tiny skirts in front of really sad men. While that hasn't happened yet, I'm here in Manila; in bookstores, not buying anything; in ukay-ukays, buying lots; in my Catholic college, being slightly below-average; in pictures, looking moronic.
